Mauser 98 Persian Excellent Condition 8X57mm
Item Description
Mauser 98, Persian, nearly "as new", beautiful European walnut stock and near perfect bluing; made at Brno Plant in Brno Czechoslovakia in 1930s (Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka), 7.9x57mm; (8mm Mauser); bore in nearly 10/10; this rifle was probably never issued and probably never sent to Persia, being kept in Czechoslovakia after German takeover of the Brno Plant for possible issue to the German Wehrmacht troops because it uses the same 8mm Mauser ammo as used by the troops, but that never happened. SN in Farsi numerals on receiver and matching on the bolt handle and SN stamped below on the receiver with 03284 in western numerals; matching numbers on bolt; matching SN also engraved in Farsi numerals on R side of stock; unlike Mausers of German manufacture, the other parts are not numbered; the bolt face looks like it may have been fired, possibly in a factory test; an inventory number 560 is stenciled on L side of stock; all other markings are in Farsi, using the Arabic alphabet; beautiful Persian crest clear and unmolested on top of receiver; rear sight adjustable from 100-2000 meters in Farsi numerals; front sight drifts L-R for windage; bbl. approximately 29 ½” and bluing looks to be nearly 100%; stock is fine grade European walnut in about 95% condition; today, they make lawyers’ desks out of walnut like this; cleaning rod in place (short “buddy rod” rod is 39.5 cm long nominally 15 ¾”, as was the custom). Bluing appears to be about 100%, stock about 95%. Local collector selling duplicates from collection.
